After a series of winter storms, capped off with an ice storm the night before, I headed out to capture some wintery landscapes.
I started at the State Capital Building. I took shelter under an old Cedar Tree to review my shots. Suddenly I heard what sounded like a gunshot over my head and I knew that the tree was breaking under the weight of the ice. I ran as fast as my feet would carry me across the ice covered snow. When I looked back, the place I was standing was now the resting place of the top of the tree. I looked around and saw hundreds of trees just like that one. It was time to move on.
I drove to River Front Park, where I found this scene. My near-death experience led me to My Personal Narnia.
